"Things in the office of Exitfare continue to buzz along at a rapid pace. The music is good and plentiful, but life is quite busy. It seems as though we are out of town every weekend -- I'll be in Toronto this weekend for NXNE, plus we'll be heaving our stacks of CDs and laptops to a new apartment soon, but more on that later. You only care about the music, right? I don't blame you."

"When I first heard The Books Elusive (just last week, I might add), my first thought was "Oh, fierce indie rock two piece! Just like Blood Red Shoes!" Umm, not so fast. The Toronto-based TBE are less math rock and more garage rock, bringing to mind Patti Smith and the Arctic Monkeys. One thing that does connect these two bands are a fiercely DIY spirit, a need to do things on their own and to get their hands dirty all for the love of rock n' roll."

"Perform is out now on the band's own Overdue Records. You can catch them at this year's NXNE on Thursday, June 12th at Holy Joe's -- they go on at 8 pm."

Exciting News! The Books Elusive are playing this year's North by Northeast Music Festival in downtown Toronto! For those who don't know, NxNE is an industry showcase of musical acts heading for (hopefully) fame and glory. If you are planning on attending come check us out! If you don't have the $$ to purchase a wristband for the full event you can still pay for our show at the door. We are playing at Holy Joe's (corner of Queen W. and Bathurst, above the reverb) Thurs. June 12th at 9:00pm sharp. Hope to see you there!

In further news, we are planning a short northern Ontario tour for the end of the month. Lynne wants to call it "Northbound & ____________ " (suggestions already submitted 'wordly' & 'slut-house'.) If you have any good suggestions for that second word let us know.

Just for the Record though, I have to clear up something that got lost in translation.

In the article is says: "I started out in Peterborough 10 years ago working with Three Days Grace and other people, so we know how important that is, as well as how much you have to persevere.''

What was actually communicated in the interview but didn't come through in the article is that I grew up in a really musically potent community in Peterborough where a lot of great musicians came from including Serena Ryder, Thousand Foot Krutch, Money Money, OE of The birthday Massacre Hawk Nelson & Three Days Grace. We all played shows together as well as did some recordings. I just don't want it to sound like I 'worked' with 3DG as a producer, which isn't true. I did have the fortunate chance to have members of the band behind the mics on other friends recording projects. They are great guys and I want to make sure, for their sakes as well as ours, history isn't misrepresented.

REVIEW! TBE @ THE FORD PLANT by Lucas Thurston

"The Books Elusive is just a lady with a guitar and a guy with some drums. I just assumed that they were going to play pleasant indie rock or something. I jokingly remarked to Matt, "...and it turns out they’re a noise band!"

"At that moment, the drummer slammed onto his tom and snare, and the room was saturated in noisy rock and roll. The drummer, Damon de Szegheo, tore a whole in the Ford Plant with his blistering beats. I still can’t believe fast he was. Damon would do these sweet poses in between beats that would last about a second or two, but it made him look so much cooler."

"Then we have the guitarist, Lynne Dubuc. She had a sexy, dark, guitar hanging from her neck that she attacked with her pick. She had this dirty, fat, grimy tone that gave the songs a edge."

"What made me truly enjoy their set, besides the name-taking ass-kicking drumming, was Lynne’s voice. She has this strange way of getting the words out of her mouth. Her voice is really different, it really makes the songs interesting. I love she just growled the words sometimes. Nothings more punk than awesome growly singing! Okay, maybe there is, but I like growly singing."

"The songs themselves would not nearly be as good if they weren’t played by the Books Elusive. Sometimes I found that they verged on the mainstream, but Damon’s pounding drumming and Lynne’s singing kept it too scary, and too rocking, for Abercrombie and Fitch. Which is good, I wouldn’t want a bunch of excellent musicians such as these to get crushed by the music machine, and it seemed that they didn’t either."

"They had a few technical problems. Lynne’s guitar, from 1962 no less, at one point became horribly out of tune. Thankfully this happened between songs so we were treated to witty banter. Damon told us a story about getting to the Ford Plant before Tim got there. A sign was left on the door that said "No bands showed up yet, go to the Rodeo." Damon said "So we though, ’That’s cryptic’, and headed to the Rodeo" It ended up with Damon in the bathroom at the Rodeo, and he saw that a tile was missing. Apparently, where the tile is missing someone carved "Who ever took this tile, bring it back, fucker". Finally, Lynne got the guitar tuned and the show was back on track."

"Overall, despite the first guy, it was a rocking night. It was too bad that Kevin had to leave after the Torcus finished, but such is life. When we got into the car at the end of the night, beeping had stopped. I guess, the cat-burglar had left and was having a good night with all those stolen goods. Well I mean, it’s a good night when you impress the sexy indie chicks with the Beethoven you played at a recital that night. Hehe."

"We left that night with the memories of indie lobster’s cut hair, Colonel’s chickeny Snacker, and a giant Cassie. The memory that was clearest in my mind was something that Lynne Dubuc said when she was tuning her 46 year old guitar. "On the count of three everyone say: ’Train wreck!’" Train wreck? Hardly."

Lynne here! Just wanted to thank everyone who came out to the show at Rancho Relaxo this past Saturday. It was one of the best birthday's that I've had! It was lovely to see you all again and meet some new friends!

As a warm up to the warm weather we are playing a stellar gig at Rancho Relaxo March 1st with The Winks, Ruby Coast & The Superstitions! $6 at the door. Well worth the pennies.

Welcome to The Books Elusive Blog / site!

We decided a blog would be the best way to keep you up to date with our goings on in the uber modern / lightening fast manner you have all grown accustomed to!

NEWS - FEB 9th '08:

Lynne and I are currently booking our first Cross-Province tour for the Spring. We already have dates booked in Toronto, Peterborough, Kitchener / Waterloo, Guelph, & Ottawa. We will be posting a Tour Itinerary in the coming weeks so look here or our myspace page for full details.

Aside from that Lynne has taken it upon herself to do the Lemonade (Master) Cleanse this week in order to get herself mentally and physically prepared. She is on day 3 and has already planned out her first meal when she is back to eating food: Fajitas. I would have chosen differently but, hey! She's the one locked in solitary nutrient confinement. When I did it all I wanted was cheap ass powder based Campbell's chicken noodle soup.. I guess her palate is smarter than mine when in starvation mode.

A good time to build dicipline considering that on the road even the choosiest of eaters are degraded to Tim Hortons and McMuffins.
